Newberry Opera House
The Newberry Opera House has been the heart of Newberry County for more than 100 years, serving as the cultural center of the region. Built in 1882, the historic structure’s French Gothic clock tower dominates the city’s skyline and has, since its construction, been a landmark for the area. After restoration, the Newberry Opera House has once again become a place for plays, art exhibits, musical performances, and social, cultural, and business gatherings.
Abbeville Opera House
The Abbeville Opera House was built in 1908 and is fully restored to its turn-of-the-century condition with two exceptions – the addition of air conditioning and rocking chair seats. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theater uses the same rope pulled rigging systems as in 1908, and is the only “hemp house” remaining in South Carolina . Once again, this “Grand Old Theater” is being used for its original purpose – to present live theater as the cultural hub of Abbeville and the Upstate Region of South Carolina.
